Can you sand StarBoard?

The edge of StarBoard can be sanded with an orbital sander or hand sander to help smooth out a jagged edge. We DO NOT recommend sanding the surface of StarBoard! Finishing the edges of StarBoard with a router is easy and can be achieved by using a standard roundover bit.

Does silicone stick to StarBoard?

Silicone or any other reef safe adhesives that I am aware of will adhere to Starboard. It is meant to be mechanically fastened or welded.

Why is it called StarBoard?

Most sailors were right handed, so the steering oar was placed over or through the right side of the stern . Sailors began calling the right side the steering side, which soon became “starboard” by combining two Old English words: stéor (meaning “steer”) and bord (meaning “the side of a boat”).

How long does StarBoard last?

Starboard AS has a grippy dot pattern on one side that’s molded–not laminated–right into the polymer sheet, and will last the lifetime of your boat.

How do you clean a black StarBoard?

To clean everyday dirt and stains, use a cleaner such as Soft Scrub® and a nylon scrubby or stiff nylon brush. Scrub lightly; excess force can mar the finish. Persistent stains will usually go away if you soak the area with bleach (do not use 100% chlorine as used to treat swimming pools) and/or use a pressure washer.

Can you epoxy starboard?

You can glue starboard to anything with epoxy. The trick is to have a recessed area that can hold the epoxy on the starboard.

How do you seal King starboard?

It is preferable to mechanically fasten or weld King StarBoard®, but when an adhesive is necessary you can use a product called Chem-Set™ 6105 Polyolefin Bonder, Lord 7542-AB, or 3M’s Scotch-Weld DP-8005.
